In this 3-day workshop lead by Code/Art, students will create computer generated art by learning basic programming skills while receiving an introduction to the history of generative and abstract art.

The last decade has witnessed a proliferation of artists whose primary medium is software. Algorithmic processes, harnessed through the medium of computer code, allow students to generate increasingly complex visual forms that they otherwise might not have been able to imagine.

Before the first class: Register for free accounts with both Scratch and Khan Academy.

Bring to class: laptop computer and earbuds/headphones.

Age Group: 10-16
Occupancy is limited. 20 students will be accepted.

Who among us has not drank from a styrofoam cup or played with goofy discarded packaging? Most don’t question the viability of plastics in a modern world defined by manufactured goods. But today, many are beginning to rethink how we can establish environmentally sustainable habits for the future.

During this 3 day workshop local Design District artist and fabricator Oliver Sanchez, from Miami's own Swampspace, will work with students first hand in sculpting styrofoam, an astounding material embedded in our daily lives that is surprisingly 98% air and just 2% plastic. This unique medium will be a vehicle for creativity as students reflect in art history and classical sculptural forms. Students will leave with an informed sense of what is means to have a studio practice for professional artists and sculptors.

Age Group: 10-18
Occupancy is limited. 20 students will be accepted.
Lunch will be provided.
