DASH TAKES MANHATTAN: 2011
AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE IN NEW YORK
DASH TAKES MANHATTAN is an exciting, new and innovative arts education initiative sponsored by Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz and The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation with additional support from the Braman Family Foundation, Inc., Craig Robins and the Key Biscayne Women's Giving Circle for 30 talented students from Design and Architecture Senior High who will explore all aspects of cultural offerings in New York City. After a full week of cultural exploration all 30 students will attend a pre-college program at SVA (School of Visual Arts). The DASH students, 15 sophomores and 15 juniors, will be nominated by DASH teachers based on academic and artistic potential and merit. The week of cultural explosion will take place in July 2011 followed by a three week pre-college program.
Each participating student will create a photo essay of their experience. At the end of the pre-college experience each student will receive college credit, have made valuable faculty connections, and added important material to their portfolio.
