In 2010 the de la Cruz Collection together with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation initiated a travel program for the graduating BFA of Visual Arts from The New World School of the Arts. For the past three years the senior class has traveled to Europe, all expenses paid, and has had the opportunity to visit different cities. The purpose of this travel program is to enrich the education of our students through exposure to the international art scene.
In 2012 the graduating BFA class of the NWSA visited the cities of Barcelona, Figueres, Berlin and Kassel where they attended the 13th edition of documenta. Twenty students were given exclusive tours of museums, architectural buildings, including the Gaudi houses, the Miro Foundation, and Picasso Museum in Barcelona; the Dali Museum in Figueres and the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
In 2011, the travel grant provided the opportunity for the senior class to attend the 54th Venice Biennial for Contemporary Art, as well as visit the city of Berlin.
This program is sponsored by Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz (de la Cruz Collection) and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Additional support received from the Braman Family Foundation, Inc., Diane & Robert Moss and Fred & Carole Guest.
