In 2009 the de la Cruz Collection together with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation initiated the yearly "Architectural Contest" part of the "Young Designers Scholarship Fund".
This has been an ongoing program since its initiation.
During the final semester of the school year, students from DASH (Design and Architecture Senior High School) participate in a contest where they are asked to present a project related to their training in architecture and industrial design. The participating students engage in imaginative presentations that showcase their talents through interdisciplinary practices in the arts.
For 2012 two classes totaling 43 students designed their vision for a "New Commercial Fashion Space and Parking Garage for the Miami Design District". The students presented architectural renderings, development plans and sculptural models based on their proposed projects.
Awards given: Five $3,500 first place awards - Five $2,500 second place awards - Five $1,250 honorable mention awards and Twenty-eight $1,000 awards for participation.
This program is sponsored by Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz (de la Cruz Collection) and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Additional support received from FENDI, North America and Craig Robins.
