For the past two summers students (thirty in 2011 and thirty five in 2012) from
(Design and Architecture Senior High School) have attended a three week summer
pre-college program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
"Dash Takes Manhattan" part of the "Young Designers Scholarship Fund" is an exciting, new and innovative art education program initiated by the de la Cruz Collection and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
This travel/study initiative allows the students to attend classes at the School of Visual Arts and explore all aspects of cultural offerings in New York City, including museum visits, Broadway shows, movie nights, sports activities and city tours. All expenses
paid - travel, tuition, stay and per diem.
The participants are nominated by their teachers based on academic and artistic potential. At the end of this pre-college experience each student receives college credits, valuable faculty connections, and added important material for their portfolio.
This program is sponsored by Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz (de la Cruz Collection) and The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Additional support received from Americans for the Arts, the Braman Family Foundation, Inc., Stephen Eisen, The Friedman-Klarreich Family Foundation, the Key Biscayne Women's Giving Circle, Lisa Lomonaco, Montblanc, Ruth Schlossberg, St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School, Enrique Sosa, Jose Tarajano and Louis Vuitton, North America.
