This lecture focused on the rise of New York as the center for the art world following
World War II and the events that led to the move of the avant garde from Paris, the "City of Light," to New York City. We dicsussed the tension between the modern, the new, and how traditional sensibilities were abandoned as artists migrated to the United States. Important artists that were discussed in the lecture were Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko among others.

We also focused on Pop Art, an important American movement partly inspired by the rapidly growing consumer culture and economic boom in the United States in the years following World War II.

This lecture was reserved for teachers /educators of Dade County Public Schools seeking to earn professional development points.
