MAINTAIN RIGHT is a performative installation by collaborative FUNNER PROJECTS (Justin H. Long and Robert Lorie). Inside the de la Cruz Collection project room, a metal crossbow, fabricated from scrap materials is set up facing a series of targets. As part of the performance, the bow is wound and measurements are taken in order to thrust single pieces of wood onto the targets. The damage brought on by the bow differs every time, creating different visual compositions as the performance continues.
"Every hour on the hour, the garage door opens. Two men emerge wheeling a large crossbow in to position. They take some measurements, and wind back the bow, the arrow is in place (which is a 2X4). All clear. Fire in the hole! BANG!
Rebelling from the world of cookie cutter art comes the collaborative group Funner Projects. Raised on a steady diet of MacGyver and Grade 8 bolts, the founding members Justin H Long and Robert Meatball Lorie are quite experienced in creating a spectacle. Coming from Neo-Middle Age Post Apocalyptic Mad Maximum Industrial Reinvention Revelation Retribution ideals, they give us "Maintain Right". Pushing performance to the point of phenomenon by destroying conventions using a crossbow built from good ole fashion scratch. The room will be so thick with tension, that it can be cut with a knife, literally."
