The talk covered the contexts of Mendieta's body of work (site, performance, video, drawing and sculpture), including references to the work of other artists as well as examples of the historic and anthropological sources of her iconography. César Trasobares is an artist and art activist based in Miami. During the past four decades, he has organized numerous exhibitions and written texts about Cuban American Art in the United States, as well as essays about various artists and his own practice. From 1985 to 1990 he served as Executive Director of Miami-Dade County's Art in Public Places Program. He is currently writing Among Friends, a personal memoir recalling his friendship with Ana Mendieta, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Carlos Alfonzo. |
