César Trasobares presented an illustrated overview of Carlos Alfonzo's development as an artist with an emphasis on the work he produced after leaving Cuba in 1980, until his death in Miami, 1991. The talk covered the context of Alfonzo's body of work (painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics), including examples of the historic and anthropological sources of his iconography.

César Trasobares is an artist and art activist based in Miami. During the past four decades he organized numerous exhibitions. Trasobares wrote texts covering Cuban American Art in the United States as well as essays about his own practice and on other artists with whom he worked. From 1985 to 1990 he served as Executive Director of Miami-Dade County's Art in Public Places Program. He is currently writing Among Friends, a personal memoir recalling his friendship with Ana Mendieta, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Carlos Alfonzo.
