Orphelinat (Orphanage) Niaber in Bamako, Mali, West Africa was founded by Mal "Bibi" Sangho in 1993. "Bibi" as she is affectionately known, has helped thousands of abandoned children. She remembers as a child how her neighbors helped her family when her father died. This act of kindness and generosity remained with her for life and became her mantra and inspiration to help children in need.

The Orphelinat Niaber is run by a nonprofit organization called "Association for the Protection of Children" located in Mali. Its founder "Bibi" Sangho is responsible for running the organization. Many volunteers contribute to her efforts in protecting and taking care of these children. Over the years she has helped many orphaned children finish school and go on to lead productive lives.

Many young students from around the world through 54 HORIZON Missions of Solidarity are involved in volunteer activities abroad and previously visited the Orphelinat Niaber during school holidays. Alejandro Ernst from Washington International School in DC visited the orphanage with his school in 2011. He was deeply touched by "Bibi's" efforts to save children and knew in his heart he had to do something. When he returned home to DC he came up with the idea to bake empanadas and sell them at school to raise funds. To this day Alejandro has baked over 2250 empanadas and raised $4,500 for the children at "Bibi's" orphanage. For this project, Alejandro's efforts are ongoing.

Tina Cornely, a resident of Miami and founder of Bridging Humanity has for many years helped and taught children in orphanages located throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. When she heard Alejandro's story she decided to visit the Orphelinat Niaber. In June 2012 Tina traveled to Mali while the country was in the throes of a coup d'etat. Tina brought emergency supplies and donations and spent time teaching "Bibi" and the children how to make useful things out of trash and how to grow their own food. This video is a series of clips that tells the story about the journey of two women who are trying to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged and abandoned children.
